Aquira DeCosta is quite possibly one of the most tenacious players in the class of 2018. Standing at 6’2”, her ball-handling and athleticism have not just gotten her attention on the web (as she has been featured on SheHoopsNetwork’s Instagram account numerous times), but it has also made her the nation’s no. 4 recruit and now a McDonald’s High School All- American.
Not only has she gained notoriety as a determined scorer, she is also one of the better defenders and rebounders in her class which has caught the attention of college scouts. In October of 2017, she committed to Baylor University to play under the guidance of Kim Mulkey who has been on the hunt for another National Title since her last in 2012.
Success should be imminent when DeCosta and three of her fellow All-American teammates Queen Egbo, Honesty Scott-Grayson, and NaLyssa Smith hit the floor this fall as a part of Baylor’s loaded roster. With DeCosta growing into one of the most versatile players seen in recent years, we can only speculate on how her skills will develop over the next four years at the college level but we can be certain that she will be one of the most exciting players to watch this year.
